When we first found Brugmansia we didn't know we could plant it in
the ground. We kept 3 plants in the house in pots through that
first winter. When I found out they survive our normally mild
winters I planted them out in the Shade Garden (not knowing if the
chickens found them tasty, I didn't want to take a chance). Since
then we have
learned a lot more about them - they like a lot of fertilizer, very
often.
In 2003 I'm putting them on an aggressive fertilizer program.
How we
grow Brugs
Datura
Triple
Purple
Datura Triple White
Datura Triple Yellow Datura
Single White Datura
Our first Datura plant was
the single white blossom someone gave us.
We like the lavender tinge around the edge of the large blossom (6-7
inches wide). Foolishly, we saved seed and then realized we were
soon going to be overrun by it. Our second Datura is the
triple white/purple blossom. The contrast of the blossom with the
dark green leaf is outstanding. In 2002 we planted some seeds we
found for the triple white and triple yellow. We found
seed
from a creamy, buttery single for the 2003 season.
