Shipping Hatching Eggs

Here at Von Russell Farm we make every effort to assure the eggs we ship are showing good fertility.  We do not guarantee hatch because there are many factors we cannot control once the eggs leave the farm.  See our information and links to incubation and hatching.

We gather eggs from our Call Ducks and Peafowl daily.  Call Duck eggs are gathered in the morning and in the evening.  Peafowl eggs are gathered at night because peahens lay at dusk.  They are marked to identify the color or breeding pen number (or name) with a colored Sharpie.  Sharpies are nontoxic and we have used them for years to mark eggs.  The marking does not wear off as it often does when a pencil is used.  In the case of the Call eggs, I have been using a second color of Sharpie to write the day of the month on the egg.  We ship eggs that are no more than 7 days old.

We take great care to insure that your hatching eggs arrive unbroken.
The eggs are first individually wrapped in foam.

They are placed in a small box, taking care that there is no movement within that box.  The box is sealed and placed in a larger box with lots of cushiony material surrounding it, again making sure there is no movement.

That box is securely taped closed and the label affixed.  The box is clearly labeled "Fragile -Hatching Eggs", and the Post Office employees have assured me that they
do fly in pressurized cabins.

Most eggs are shipped Priority Mail and take 2 days to reach their destination.  We are happy to ship Express Mail for an additional charge.  We have even accommodated customers' wishes and shipped eggs via 'Package Services' which goes by ground transportation.  Some people feel that eggs do better if they are not shipped via air, but we have never done any sort of study to determine what, if any, damage occurs to the air sac of the eggs shipped by air transport.

We want your experience buying hatching eggs from us to be a positive one, so please email us with any questions or concerns prior to placing an egg order or before bidding on any eggs we have on Internet auctions.
